City Palace- The City Palace of Udaipur is the largest royal complex in Rajasthan. Built over 4 centuries by different rulers of the Mewar dynasty. The palace overlooks Lake Pichola and has courtyards, balconies and gardens. The museum inside has royal artifacts, historic paintings and rare crystal furniture. Mor Chowk has 200 year old peacock mosaics. The palace has an armory section with swords and weapons used by Maharana Pratap in battle.
Jagmandir- Built in the 17th century, Jagmandir Island Palace is on Lake Pichola and was a royal summer retreat. Gul Mahal has intricate carvings and tiles. It is believed that Shah Jahan stayed here before constructing the Taj Mahal. The island has beautiful gardens and marble structures. You can take a boat ride from City Palace jetty to reach the palace and see its architecture.
Saheliyon Ki Bari- A special place built for the royal women of Mewar has lawns, fountains, marble pavilions and lotus pools. The fountains work on a gravity-based water system, ancient engineering. It was designed as a peaceful retreat for the queen and her attendants. The small museum inside the garden has royal artifacts and paintings. It is a popular tourist spot due to its serene atmosphere and historical significance.
Monsoon Palace- Also known as Sajjangarh Fort. It was built by Maharana Sajjan Singh. It is situated on a hill top and has a view of the city and the Aravali Hills. Originally it was intended to be an astronomical center but was later used as a monsoon retreat. During monsoon, the palace is surrounded by mist and clouds, and it looks magical. The sunset from the palace is one of the best in Udaipur.
Fateh Sagar Lake- It is an artificial fresh water lake built in the 17th century. It has 3 islands, each with its own unique experience. The largest island has Nehru Park which is a beautiful garden with a boat shaped restaurant. The second island has Udaipur Solar Observatory which is one of the best in Asia. You can enjoy speedboat or paddle boating while admiring the views of the Aravalli hills surrounding the lake.
Bagore Ki Haveli- The Bagore Ki Haveli is an 18th century mansion which was once the residence of a Mewar prime minister. It has been converted into a museum which showcases royal costumes, jewelry, turbans and historic artifacts. The haveli has over 100 rooms and each with colourful glasswork and murals. The highlight of the haveli is the Dharohar Dance Show which is held every evening to feature traditional Rajasthani folk dances like Ghoomar, Bhavai and Kalbeliya.
Day 1: Delhi to Udaipur
Start early from Delhi and have breakfast at Old Rao Dhaba in Dharuhera which is famous for its stuffed parathas. If you are taking the NH 27 route stop at Raniji Ki Baori in Bundi a 46 meter deep stepwell with beautiful carvings. After arrival at Udaipur in the evening, check in to your hotel. If you are not tired, take a boat ride on Lake Pichola to see the City Palace lit up at night. End the day with Rajasthani cuisine at 1559 AD Restaurant.
Day 2: Explore Udaipur
The city sightseeing tour will begin with a delicious breakfast, and then a visit to the City Palace, which is the largest palace in Rajasthan, with mirror work, balconies and historic artifacts. Visit Jagmandir, the island palace where Emperor Shah Jahan used to hide. After lunch, visit Bagore ki Haveli, famous for its turban collection and evening Dharohar Dance Show.
